Dermot’s credits extend from panel shows to news bulletins on BBC, ITV and CNBC Europe. He anchored Sky’s flagship news show Sky News with Dermot Murnaghan for fifteen years.


Biography

Dermot Murnaghan anchored Sky’s flagship news show for fifteen years, presenting Sky News with Dermot Murnaghan. He previously presented BBC Breakfast, Treasure Hunt, Eggheads, Celebrity Eggheads and Are You An Egghead?, The State We’re In, Crimes That Shook Britain, and fronted Sky’s Sunday morning political programme, Murnaghan.

Prior to this he fronted ITV’s Lunchtime, Nightly and Evening news bulletins for eleven years and was a key part of the presentation team covering the 2001 General Election. Dermot broke the news to the nation about the sudden death of Diana, Princess of Wales. He also broke the news of Queen Elizabeth II's death and presented the afternoon rolling news coverage as Sky News was the first British television news organisation to report the monarch's passing.

He has won the Royal Television Society’s Interviewer of The Year Award for his interview with Peter Mandelson which resulted in his resignation from the Cabinet and has received Newscaster of The Year Award from TRIC for his work at ITN.

Before joining ITN’s Lunchtime News, Dermot regularly presented Channel 4 News and fronted five series of The Big Story. He was also a reporter for Business Programme, co-presenter for ITV’s Sports Awards and was the anchor of Channel 4 Daily.

After obtaining an MA in History from Sussex University he went on to complete a post-graduate course in Journalism at City University.

We were joined by four fantastic speakers to look ahead at International Women’s Day. With the theme of this year’s event being #InspireInclusion, we were lucky enough to hear from four women who have each blazed a trail in their respective fields: CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon; the former Australian Prime Minister and Chair of Kings’ Global Institute of Women’s Leadership, Julia Gillard; one of the leading voices in football, Eniola Aluko MBE; and broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed.
