Phil Vickery

Fee Band

Having won the World Cup with the England rugby team, Phil is now almost as well known for his win on Celebrity Masterchef. He speaks about his part in the England team, how they took on, and beat the world, and whether the pressure of a World Cup final can match that of kitchen.

Biography

Phil Vickery was a key part of the England team that won the Rugby World Cup in Australia. An acclaimed club and country player, Phil is known to a wider audience as a winner of BBC One’s Celebrity Masterchef.

The son of a Cornish farmer, Phil started playing rugby at the age of 12 and was selected for the England under 16s. He left school, worked on his parents’ farm, and was eventually signed by Gloucester from his local club. In an impressive career, Phil played over 70 matches for England, and won titles with Gloucester and Wasps before a neck injury forced him to retire. Since then he has regularly commentated on ITV’s rugby coverage and has returned to the sport as a coach at Worcester.

Since his famous victory in Masterchef, Phil has pursued his love of food and cookery. He worked with McDonalds in recruiting members of the public to act as Quality Scouts to examine the company’s supply chain. He has also founded his own sportswear company Raging Bull (Phil’s nick-name in his playing days).
