Sam Quek boasts an array of achievements in field hockey, playing both the England national team and the British Olympic team, before moving into a media career, including as co-anchor on BBC’s Olympic Breakfast and as a team captain on A Question of Sport.
In the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Sam won gold against the Netherlands in the dramatic final that came down to a penalty shoot-out. Sam also won European Championship medals at London and Boom, and took the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In the Champions' Trophy in Mendoza, Sam broke two ribs in the opening game. This did not stop her playing in every following match, nor did it stop her stepping in as captain in the absence of Kate Richardson-Walsh.
Sam's part in the gold-winning team catapulted her onto TV screens across the UK, where she has since been seen on shows from I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here to The Chase and Pointless. Sam's autobiography Hope and a Hockey Stick, is a story of triumph over adversity, resilience, and the power and the pressure of elite performance and her book Roar: A Celebration of Great Sporting Women, highlights the sacrifices and successes of top sportswomen.
