A former US Commerce Department official who advises governments and global corporations on trade, geopolitics and sustainable growth, Juan was a member of President Biden’s Export Council, and was also a Deputy Assistant Secretary under President Obama. Juan Verde is an global strategist advising governments, businesses and investors on trade, geopolitical risk and the transition to a sustainable economy. With experience inside the White House and the US Department of Commerce, and decades working alongside global leaders, he combines political insight, strategic planning and commercial pragmatism.
During his time working with the US Government, Juan served as a member of President Biden’s Export Council, advising the White House on foreign trade and US competitiveness. Whilst under President Obama, he was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe and Eurasia at the US Department of Commerce, leading efforts to resolve market access barriers for American companies, and overseeing commercial policy across 52 countries. During President Clinton’s administration, Juan worked as an International Trade Advisor, supporting trade and minority business development initiatives.
Alongside government work, Juan has advised organisations including Google, Cisco, Microsoft, Banco Santander, the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank. He serves on the Board of Directors of Hispasat and on Airbus’s Advisory Board, and has worked with governments across the Americas and Europe. A expert voice on climate and trade, Juan worked with Al Gore to establish Climate Reality Project branches in Spain and Argentina, and he has participated in the UN Climate Conferences COP25 and COP26.
