As a teenager, Jo started her original cosmetics and fragrance range in her kitchen and grew it into a global luxury brand before selling her stake to Estée Lauder. She returned to the field with Jo Loves and became a regular in the media commenting on business and offering advice to entrepreneurs. In presentations she explores success and failure – confessing her need to rock the boat. Jo offers her take on growing any enterprise: “Ensure your team feel secure, but encourage them to take risks. Only then can you reach a new level.”

Biography

Jo Malone is an entrepreneur, an 'English scent maverick', and one of the most recognisable names in the world of fragrance and lifestyle products. The founder of Jo Malone London, she sold the business to Estée Lauder, remained as Creative Director for seven years, before moving on to launch her Jo Loves venture.

Leaving school at 14 to care for her mother, Jo began work on a beauty counter and later became a facial therapist running a small clinic from her London home. Her handmade creations became so popular that they quickly gained cult status under the Jo Malone London brand. After selling the brand and working with the new owners Estée Lauder, Jo left the business and no longer has any connection to the brand or products. She then launched Jo Loves, embodying creativity and innovation with a distinctive range of scents, bath and body products and candles. Starting with a small collection, Jo Loves now reaches customers worldwide through its flagship store in London and outlets internationally. Jo has built an extraordinary career creating some of the world’s most loved fragrances through her own intuitive creative process. She remains one of the beauty industry’s and retail’s most original entrepreneurs.

Through her entrepreneurial and creative journey, Jo has also overcome personal challenges including dyslexia and breast cancer, which inform her story of resilience and leadership. Now based in Dubai, Jo has launched Jo Malone Creative Consultancy with her husband Gary, aiming to explore 'the five senses of Jo' through new ventures, the first of which is Jo Vodka, and continues her dedication to inspire and captivate.

A regular presence in the media, Jo published her autobiography My Story and was invited by the BBC to create the BBC Maestro course How to Think Like an Entrepreneur. In presentations Jo shares her entrepreneurial story from council house to international acclaim, the lessons learned along the way, and her continuing mission to change the way the world wears fragrance.
