From sketch shows and sitcoms with writing and performing partner Robert Webb to starring in hit crime comedy-drama Ludwig, from winning comic contest Last One Laughing to writing columns for The Observer and captaining on Would I Lie to You?, Bafta-winner David Mitchell is one of the most versatile writer-performers around.
David Mitchell is a writer, presenter and actor. One half of the comedy partnership Mitchell and Webb, the pair starred in multiple series of their own sketch show on TV and radio, as well as Peep Show and assorted films and series. He's an acclaimed writer and columnist, the star of the hit detective comedy-drama Ludwig, and both a host and regular guest on many panel shows.
Known for a combination of intellect, wit and often bewildered fury, the Radio Times named David ‘The Best Comedy Panel Show Guest’ in the world, stating that ‘he's incredibly, disgustingly witty'. He’s been a regular contestant on QI, 8 Out of 10 Cats, and Mock the Week, a frequent guest and host on Have I Got News for You, a team captain on Would I Lie to You? and a winner on comedy contest Last One Laughing.
As a writer, David's popular column in The Observer has taken a satirical and often frustrated look at the news agenda. The column has also spawned an online video series, David Mitchell's Soapbox, and the books Dishonesty is the Second-Best Policy and Thinking About It Only Makes It Worse: And Other Lessons from Modern Life. He’s also published a volume of autobiography, Back Story, and Unruly: A History Of England’s Kings and Queens, described as a 'a Horrible Histories for grown-ups'.
Alongside Peep Show, David and Robert have also starred together in the series Back, and Ambassadors, and the film Magicians. David has starred as Will Shakespeare in Ben Elton’s historical comedy Upstart Crow (both on stage and on screen), as well as more fleeting roles in everything from Jam & Jerusalem to Peppa Pig, Doctor Who to the Steve Coogan film Greed.
