Presenter and journalist Kate Garraway is one of the anchors on Good Morning Britain. She also presents her weekday morning on Smooth Radio. She’s a former presenter of Sky News' breakfast show Sunrise, as well as GMTV.
Kate’s career started in BBC radio, and she began working in television when she joined the south edition of ITV News Central as a production journalist, reporter, and news presenter. She then went on to work at Meridian Tonight, and as part of the team that launched BBC News 24. As a reporter, Kate has covered major breaking news stories, from natural disasters to wars.
Away from news Kate's other TV credits include appearances on Strictly Come Dancing, The Crystal Maze, I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, This Morning as well as successives ITV breakfast shows GMTV, and Daybreak, which was replaced by Good Morning Britain with Kate joining as one of the main hosts.
Kate’s husband, Derek Draper, contracted Covid-19 and was placed in a medically induced coma. Initially, Kate was told that he would not survive more than a few months. A year later he was still in hospital and was thought to be the UK's longest-fighting Covid-19 patient. Derek died almost four years after first contracting the virus, during which time he required constant care. In her book The Power Of Hope, Kate shares the raw and emotional story of the devastating impact that Covid-19 has had on her family, with a heart-breaking yet inspirational account of battling adversity and coping with uncertainty about the future. In The Strength of Love: Embracing an Uncertain Future with Resilience and Optimism, Kate explored the impact of trauma as well as the importance of resilience, adaptability, curiosity, and positivity when recovering from it. In the ITV documentary Finding Derek, Kate let cameras document her husband's battles with Covid, and show how her family have adjusted to a new way of life. In the follow up Caring For Derek, Kate again shared the upheaval that has dominated her and her family's lives. Both documentaries were named winners of the Authored Documentary category at the National Television Awards.
