The author of Westlessness and The Great Imperial Hangover, Samir draws on his background as an academic and a British diplomat to explain and analyse geopoliical events, including the Russia-Ukraine war and the relationship between China and Taiwan.

Biography

Samir Puri is a geopolitics expert and author, who is currently an Associate Fellow at Chatham House. His background includes diplomacy and academia, having been a British diplomat (including a year spent living in East Ukraine, during which time he monitored Russia’s first invasion of the region), and a Lecturer in War Studies at King’s College London.

Samir’s most recent book is Westlessness: The Great Global Rebalancing, which analyses how the power that Western nations have held over the previous centuries is displaying an increasing fragility. Taking a demographic, economic, military and cultural perspective, Samir looks at what this could mean geopolitically. He has also written the books The Great Imperial Hangover: How Empires Have Shaped The World - which looks at how the history of empire shapes contemporary life, both socially and politically; and Russia’s Road To War With Ukraine, which looks at the events that lead to Russia’s invasion in 2022.

As a speaker, Samir offers his insight into an uncertain world, where geopolitical shifts become increasingly common.
