Biography

Marcus Buckingham, an author and executive lecturer at The Gallup Organization, has conducted research for nearly 20 years on the world's best managers, leaders, and workplaces. He has taken his broad experience in management practices and employee retention and put it into several best-selling books. Buckingham challenges conventional wisdom and shows the link between employee opinions and productivity, profit, customer satisfaction, and the rate of turnover. He helps his clients unveil new ways to exceed expectations, inspire colleagues, and identify and motivate talented employees.

In his speeches Marcus address the challenges of leadership and management. What is the difference between leading and managing? Can you do both? What talents do you need to excel at each? Are the best leaders and managers born, or are they made? Drawing on extensive research, Marcus will answer these questions and reveal the one thing you need to know about great leading and great managing.

He is the author of books including
First, Break All The Rules on the secrets of great managers, Now, Discover Your Strengths encouraging readers to focus on their abilities and The One Thing You Need To Know which examines identifying what holds someone back, rather than what their strength is.

Marcus Buckingham holds a master’s degree in social and political science from Cambridge University and is a member of the Secretary of State's Advisory Committee on Leadership and Management.
