Biography

Dr Julie Smith is a clinical psychologist with over a decade of professional experience. She has devoted her career to learning everything she can about adult mental health and the intricacies of the human mind.

Julie uses this knowledge to help people through the worst times in their lives. In her private practice, she works with a diverse group of clients from all walks of life, each at different stages of their personal growth. From school leavers, new parents and students to business leaders, entrepreneurs, military personnel, professional athletes, and celebrities.

Julie is also an online educator and TikTok star. During the COVID-19 pandemic, her audience grew to three million followers as users related to the bite-size self-help videos she shared. She has since amassed an audience of over six million and is the go-to online resource for mental health tips and tricks for millennials and Gen Z.

In her book, Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?, Julie draws on years of experience to share all the skills to get through ups and downs. Filled with secrets from a therapist's toolkit, she shares expert advice and powerful coping techniques to help you stay resilient no matter what life throws your way.

It is Julie's mission to help as many people as she can to thrive. She wants to make top quality mental health education accessible online and believes even those who cannot access therapy can get off to the best start in their recovery journey. She has devoted her career to supporting people through tough times and giving them the best tools available to build confidence. During her time in the NHS she worked across a range of services, from primary care to acute intensive care wards and crisis teams. She has also provided highly specialised psychological services on an acute ward created exclusively for the Ministry of Defence.

With the theme of this year’s event being #InspireInclusion, we were lucky enough to hear from four women who have each blazed a trail in their respective fields: CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon; the former Australian Prime Minister and Chair of Kings’ Global Institute of Women’s Leadership, Julia Gillard; one of the leading voices in football, Eniola Aluko MBE; and broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed.
