Biography

Stephanie Hirst is one of the UK's biggest radio stars, best known for fronting her breakfast show, Hirsty’s Daily Dose, on Capital FM for over a decade and hosting the national Sunday chart show Hit40UK. At the height of her fame, she came out as transgender and stepped away from broadcasting to focus on her mental health and personal life. Since returning to radio, she hosted The Stephanie Hirst Show on BBC Radio Leeds and plays dance-floor throwbacks on her Belters show on Hits Radio.

She began her broadcasting career at the age of 12, making teas for the DJs at her local radio station in Leeds. By the age of 16, she had secured her own show on the overnight slot and she soon began moving around the regional stations covering evening and drivetime shows. She went on to host some of the biggest commercial radio shows in the UK and interview some of the world’s biggest stars.

As well as being a high-energy and engaging presenter, Stephanie shares her inspirational story of how she reached her dreams and then made the brave decision to let it all go in order to put her mental health first. She talks candidly about her journey, her transition and the importance of representation in the LGBTQ+ community. From a young age, she told herself ‘if you can believe, you can achieve’ and this became a motto she now lives by and shares with others.

Outside of radio, she has presented for BBC Breakfast, Lorraine and is regularly seen on The Jeremy Vine Show. She's written articles for The Independent, The Telegraph and Huffington Post, and also teamed up with Kurt Geiger to promote their brand.
