From his seat in the Commons press gallery, Chris Ship reported on all the Westminster goings-on for ITV News for over a decade. Often deputising for the channel’s Political Editor Robert Peston, Chris led ITV output from the lunchtime bulletin to News at Ten as well as often hosting the bulletins.
Serving as a political correspond before being promoted to Deputy Political Editor, Chris witnessed elections, leadership battles, policy shifts and plots. As well as interviewing senior politicians and civil servants, and reporting from the main party conferences, he also covered defence stories. He has travelled to both Afghanistan and Iraq - once spending two weeks embedded with 3rd Battalion the Parachute Regiment in Kandahar.
Chris left the Westminster beat behind to become ITV’s Royal Editor covering everything from royal weddings to speeches, state visits, tours and other news from the royal household.
