Geoff White is an author, speaker, investigative journalist and podcast creator. He has worked for the BBC, Audible, Penguin, Sky News, and The Sunday Times. In a career spanning twenty years, he has covered everything from billion-dollar cyber heists to global money laundering rings and crypto-gangsters.
Geoff’s books cover the real events, actors and fallout from cyber crime and hacking, whether by individuals or states. In Crime Dot Com: From Viruses to Vote Rigging, How Hacking Went Global, Geoff charts the rise of cyber attacks from email viruses in the early 2000s to large scale assaults on infrastucture and business. His second book, The Lazarus Heist: From Hollywood to High Finance: Inside North Korea’s Global Cyber War, was based on his BBC podcast exploring the infamous North Korean group that have stolen over $1billion in a global cybercrime spree. Whilst Rinsed: From Cartels to Crypto: How the Tech Industry Washes Money for the World's Deadliest Crooks exposes a new and potentially disasterous system that makes the proceeds of organised crime almost impossible to track.
Geoff has written and presented two major podcast series for Audible. The Dark Web exposed the shadow internet created by the US military and that is now home to hackers, criminals and freedom fighters. His series Artificial Intelligence: Friend or Foe? reveals the origins of AI and its effects on everyday life. Geoff’s own podcast, Cybercrime Investigations, takes listeners inside the world of an investigative journalist, detailing the twists and turns as the story unfolds.
Geoff was also the co-creator of The Secret Life of Your Mobile Phone, a live, interactive phone hacking stage performance which showed how the tech industry is harvesting the data leaking from your handset. The show was a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has gone on to appear at events from music festivals to political conferences.
As the technology correspondent for Channel 4 News, Geoff won multiple awards for his work on the Snowden leaks, the hacking of Britain’s then-largest internet provider TalkTalk, and his exposés of fraud in the online dating industry. He was the creator of the programme’s Data Baby project, a unique experiment which used a fictional online persona to expose how personal data is used and abused.
