Diagnosed with with autism and synaesthesia, Daniel battled to learn many of the social skills others take for granted, like the ability to look someone in the eye or read social cues, but he speaks a dozen languages and calculates extraordinary sums. Daniel Tammet is an author and high-functioning autistic savant - described by the scientists as 'the Rosetta Stone of autism.' He speaks a dozen languages and can calculate enormous sums in his head in seconds by visualising the numbers as multi-coloured mental shapes.
Daniel famously holds the British and European record for reciting mathematics' most famous number, the constant Pi (3.14...) to 22,514 decimal places. He was the subject of the award-winning documentary, Brainman: The Boy With The Incredible Brain, and inspired the Kate Bush song, Pi. In speeches, Daniel talks about his experiences living with autism, what it’s taught him about people and the world, how he learnt Icelandic in a week, and his amazing gift with numbers and mathematics. He regularly appears in the media, is a subject of study in literature and psychology departments around the world, and has also founded a website providing online language courses.
