Biography

David Walliams is one of the nation’s best-loved comedy actors and performers. First coming to public attention with his long-time writing and performing partner Matt Lucas and their sketch show Little Britain, he has gone on to appear in film, television and stage roles both comic and dramatic, and has become a successful children’s writer.

After attending the National Youth Theatre (where he first met Matt) David went on to write for and appear alongside some of the biggest names in British comedy including Catherine Tate, Peter Kay, Mark Gatiss, and Simon Pegg. He teamed up with Matt to create the acclaimed mock-interview series Rock Profile, which established them as fresh comic talents. They returned in the phenomenally successful Little Britain, a series of grotesque parodies of ‘typical’ British people. The series spawned a successful live tour and a US version Little Britain USA. The pair followed this up with the airline ‘mockumentary’ Come Fly with Me.

David has taken on an array of film and TV roles appearing in Spaced, Eastenders, Neighbours, Doctor Who, and Great Expectations. He has appeared on stage in Harold Pinter’s No Man's Land, played the title role in the TV film Frankie Howerd: Rather You Than Me, been a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, and fronted documentaries on James Bond and Roald Dahl.

Aside from performing, David has become particularly well-known for a series of gruelling challenges for Comic Relief which have seen him swim the English Channel, the Strait of Gibraltar and the length of the Thames. He has also gone onto to publish a series of popular children’s novels including Gangsta Granny, Ratburger, and Mr Stink, the latter of which was adapted for television.

David is a best-selling children’s author with thirty nine titles to his name and global sales exceeding fifty three million copies. His books have been translated into fifty five different languages.
