Biography

Richard Madeley is one of the most recognisable faces on British television. Together with his wife Judy Finnegan, he achieved cult status as presenter of This Morning.

Richard started out on local news in the North West, earning his spurs first as a reporter then as the anchor on Granada Reports. He and Judy became the obvious choice to co-host ITV’s new daytime magazine programme from the renovated Albert Docks in Liverpool.

This Morning ran for 13 years with Richard and Judy at the helm, before the couple decamped to Channel 4 for their own early evening show. They also established Book Club and quickly became as influential as Oprah Winfrey is in the States, endorsing titles from all genres and spawning a vast number of community book clubs around the country.

Away from the TV sofa Richard has hosted Eye of the Storm, Connections and Fortune - The Million Pound Giveaway. He has guest presented Chris Evans’ Radio 2 show and stood in for Richard Bacon on Radio 5 live. He’s also published a book on his family history - before discovering on Who Do You Think You Are? that one of his ancestors was tried for witchcraft.

Richard brings a stream of anecdotes and gossip to the after dinner circuit. With genuine warmth and a great sense of fun, he offers tips on how to deal with mishaps on live TV (whether yours or your partner’s) – and reveals just what it’s like facing up to an angry OJ Simpson.
