One of the most popular and adaptable performers around, Frank has an impressive list of credits from hosting his own chat show and Room 101, to writing and starring in sit-coms, but it’s as a stand up that he remains peerless combining word perfect observations with original, often risqué punchlines.
Frank Skinner is one of the country’s most popular comedians, presenters and performers. His career has incorporated award-winning standup, a number one single, sitcoms, chat shows and radio.
Whilst teaching English at college near his home town of West Bromwich, Frank gave standup a try. A year after his stage debut, he was on TV, and two years later he starred in and co-wrote the acclaimed Channel 4 comedy Packet of Three. Less than five years after he started in comedy he was one of the hottest performers on the circuit and beat Jack Dee and Eddie Izzard to the Edinburgh Perrier Award.
After writing and starring in the influential cult sitcom Blue Heaven, Frank hit the mainstream with Fantasy Football League. With fellow comedian and writer David Baddiel, the two launched one of the most popular shows of the era with a winning combination of sporting chat, comedy, audience interaction and catchphrases that were heard in pubs and stadiums around the country.
The huge success of Fantasy Football also led to Frank and David teaming up with the Lightning Seeds to produce the Euro 96 anthem Three Lions (It’s Coming Home), a song now embedded in English football (and, cheekily, in German football too) and one of the few singles to reach number one twice.
Frank went on to write and star in his second sitcom, Shane, and to host his own hit chat show on BBC One. He teamed up with David Baddiel again in Baddiel & Skinner Unplanned, presented the relaunch of Room 101, took up dramatic acting on the West End stage in the acclaimed Art, and has been a regular on QI and Have I Got News For You. He continues to be a hugely popular live standup, and his show on Absolute Radio is one of the most downloaded shows in the country.
