Geraint is a Tour De France winner; He was the first British rider to win two stages including on top of the Alpe d’Huez. Over his twelve-year career as a professional cyclist, he has become one of the sport’s most explosive, versatile, and celebrated riders. Away from the road, Geraint is a double Olympic Champion on the track.
Geraint Thomas is the first Welshman to win the Tour de France and the first Briton to conquer its iconic Alpe d’Huez stage. On the track Geraint has won two Olympic gold medals and three World Championships, and was named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Alongside his incredible sporting career, Geraint has also published three books, and filmed a BBC documentary. He also hosts two podcasts, Watts Occurring with Luke Rowe, and The Geraint Thomas Cycling Club, where along with amateur rider Tom Fordyce, Geraint goes on a fascinating ride round the stories and secrets of pro racing, and build the cycling club from scratch.
He founded The Geraint Thomas Trust whose aim is to help young children get into cycling.
In the fight against COVID-19 with nurses, doctors and hospital specialists sacrificing their personal safety day in and day out, Geraint took it upon himself to make a difference with a cycling twist. He mirrored a standard shift of a typical National Health Service (NHS) health worker, riding twelve hours a day, for three days. Geraint streamed his Zwift riders, with all contributions going directly to the NHS. Over £375,000 was raised across the thirty-six hours to celebrate the work of the front-line workers.
Following Geraint’s third place in the 2022 Tour de France, he becomes the ninth person in the sport’s history to finish on all three steps of the race’s podium.
