The investment banker turned reporter has made a remarkable recovery since being shot in Riyadh. He’s filmed in Afghanistan and LA, and returned to Saudi Arabia. Frank explains the battle of minds with Iran, with the potential for a working relationship which could help make the world a safer place. On general security risks, he believes “you don’t win or lose the struggle against terrorism, you can only reduce it to manageable levels.”


Biography

BBC Security correspondent Frank Gardner has reported on global events from Ukraine to Afghanistan, the Arctic to Colombia. A former banker and Territorial Army officer, he was shot six times while on assignment in Saudi Arabia. Frank survived with multiple injuries and uses a Wheelchair, which has not stopped him kayaking in Antarctica.

Frank is a graduate in Arabic and Islamic Studies. His first book, describing his experiences in the Middle East Blood and Sand, became a Sunday Times No.1 bestseller. He has gone on to write three best-selling spy thrillers Crisis, Ultimatum and Outbreak

He was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II for services to journalism and was awarded the University of Southern California’s Tommy Trojan Trophy for distinguished speaking. He is also President of the British Trust for Ornithology.

As a broadcaster and communicator, Frank shares his passion for the Middle East, travel, and adventure. He draws on a unique perspective and understanding of both domestic and international security.

We were joined by four fantastic speakers to look ahead at International Women’s Day. With the theme of this year’s event being #InspireInclusion, we were lucky enough to hear from four women who have each blazed a trail in their respective fields: CEO of Channel 4, Alex Mahon; the former Australian Prime Minister and Chair of Kings’ Global Institute of Women’s Leadership, Julia Gillard; one of the leading voices in football, Eniola Aluko MBE; and broadcaster and journalist, Samira Ahmed.
