Biography

Dr Julia Jones has been studying and applying the science of psychology, neuroscience and behaviour for over thirty years. She was first demonstrated ‘biohacking’ techniques during a visit to a US Navy base in California in the early 1990s. They were monitoring the ability of music to influence evolutionary, biological responses, reducing anxiety in high pressure situations, boosting endurance, maintaining motivation, and improving sleep.

As a musician and DJ, Julia was fascinated by this scientific exploration of the power of music and sound, and has been using it in her professional work ever since. She has shown clients from all sectors and backgrounds how to harness the power of music and sound for health benefits, elite performance and commercial success. Her work in this area has led to her being known as 'Dr Rock'. She has gone on to study sports and exercise psychology, and hold both a science PhD and an MBA.

Julia's work has expanded into the other biohacks beyond the aural. She has explored how daylight exposure, timed eating and fasting, cold showers, breathwork and biofeedback can transform health and wellness, boost performance and reduce the risk of illness. Working with clients from elite sport (including the GB Olympic team), NHS dementia projects, business leaders, property developers, government, Grammy-winning musicians and Oscar-nominated actors, she has built an impressive body of research and real-world applications.

In her Health Trilogy books, Julia has worked to spread awareness of the new scientific research and the effectiveness of simple, science-based habits. The series began with The Music Diet book, showcasing the versatile power of music and sound as a biohack. The follow up Neuron became the foundation of her Smart Wellness startup (Neuron Wellness). And F-Bomb completed the Trilogy with an exploration of the science of longevity, gaining a front-page mention in The Times as well as numerous TV appearances.

Julia’s live show The Smart Wellness Experience, and her Biohacking Bootcamps, have built on her work combining science, entertainment and interactivity. With many chronic illnesses beginning silently at a cellular level during working life, Julia is engaging with organisations to ensure their employee wellness programmes include this cutting-edge epigenetic science at their core.
