Biography
LJ Rich is a musician, broadcaster and technologist who, amongst other areas, uses music to reveal underlying technology trends and human behaviour. She presented and reported for the BBC's technology show Click for over 15 years, delivering features ranging from high-speed stunts to cutting-edge tech exploration. An accomplished pianist, she also uses music to connect the emotional and rational minds of audiences, unlocking creative thinking and solving real-world problems. LJ believes AI and machine learning can be a powerful companion to human creativity and regularly uses them in her original compositions.
LJ has co-curated numerous editions of the United Nations' AI for Good Global Summit, one of the world's most important annual conferences on AI governance and innovation. The events provide insight into how international bodies, governments and businesses are approaching AI, technology and transformation. She has been working with generative AI for a decade, and has been noted as a pioneer in the area. She was among the first musicians to demonstrate both the potential and pitfalls of the technology, creating a viral project in which she used AI to ‘make’ The Beatles sing Call Me Maybe. Her work has also shown how creative approaches to AI can reach far beyond art and culture, exploring benefits to health, business and climate, and with compositions, collaborations and performances illustrating the importance and joy of connectivity.
Exploring trust and AI, how to be sure of an answer, spotting fakes and understanding the limited of technology, LJ combines insight, experience and creativity. From performance to human interaction, she considers technology and the future, forecasting trends and demonstrating the lessons from how music and technology have always interacted in order to reveal what might come next.
