Biography

Grace Dent is an award-winning restaurant critic for the Guardian. She also appears as a regular guest judge on MasterChef and hosts chart-topping Guardian podcast, Comfort Eating.

She may be intimidating to some (especially ambitious amateur chefs) but Grace’s warm personality and wonderful sense of humour place joy and comedy at the heart of all she does.

Her best-selling memoir, Hungry, tells her story of growing up in a working-class family in Carlisle to becoming one of the much-loved voices on the British food scene. It exudes nostalgia and is not just relatable and charming but also ‘tender and touching’ as Grace writes about her father’s dementia with heart-breaking honesty.

On screen Grace has also appeared on Have I Got News For You, Sky Art’s Book Club, Between The Covers, Mastermind, The Review Show, Britain’s Greatest Comedy Character, The Culture Show, Very British Problems, The Apprentice, and Charlie Brooker’s Screenwipe.

Grace has hosted The World’s Most Expensive Buffett, Best of Britain by the Sea with Ainsley Harriott, and The World Cook. Her presenting extends to radio broadcasting. Grace is a regular on the airwaves on BBC Radio 2 on Christmas Day, and hosts The Untold on BBC Radio 4, a series documenting the untold dramas of twenty first-century Britain. It has twice been nominated for an ARIA.
