Dr Phil Hopley is a globally recognised expert in mental health and performance. Phil is a Medical Doctor, Consultant Psychiatrist, Founder and Managing Director of Cognacity. As a Performance and Leadership Coach he works closely with business leaders, elite athletes and stage and screen artists to optimise their ability to perform under pressure. His broad experience across mental health, from treating dangerous offenders in Broadmoor High Secure Hospital to helping leaders, athletes and entertainers in crisis gives him a unique perspective on people, mindset and performance.
As a former professional rugby player for Wasps, England Students and the Barbarians, Phil is now recognised as a leading authority on elite sport mental health. He has been Performance Coach with the MacLaren F1 team since 2020 supporting their impressive return to top form. He also works with Premiership footballers and rugby players, DP Tour golfers, ATP tennis stars, GB track and field athletes and in many other sports.
Phil’s extensive experience as a forensic medicolegal expert enables him to effectively support leaders coping with the intensely media-scrutinised demands of stressful events including: Parliamentary Commons Select Committee hearings, the US Senate Committee hearings, contentious Employment Tribunals and Civil Court cases. His opinion is also often sought in high profile criminal cases involving household names from the world of sport and entertainment.
