Sky News, The Cathy Newman Show
After two decades hosting Channel 4 News, having previously covered politics for the programme, Cathy joined Sky to front their daily politics show. She's anchored election coverage, broken big Westminster stories, appeared on Have I Got News For You, and led Channel 4's FactCheck Blog separating the truth from the spin.
Cathy Newman presents Sky News' flagship evening politics programme, The Cathy Neeman Show. For two decades she was one of Channel 4 News' main studio presenters, and was the first woman to co-host the programme. She joined Channel 4 News as political correspondent and has covered events in Westminster for the Daily Telegraph and Times Radio.
As well as Channel 4's main news programme, Cathy has also fronted Channel 4 documentaries on faith schools and police investigations. She co-presented the broadcaster’s Election Night from 2010 onwards, and also took an alternative look at the government’s cuts programme in How to Save £100bn. Cathy also broke a number of big political stories, including the arrest of David Cameron’s aide Steve Hilton, the revelation that the Home Office were employing illegal immigrants, and Gordon Brown’s insistence that Labour donor Ronald Cohen receive a knighthood. Cathy’s confrontation with Peter Mandelson over his stand-off with newspaper bosses became a surprise YouTube hit, whilst her stewardship of the Orwell Prize- nominated FactCheck Blog uncovered the truth behind everything from budgets and spending reviews to crime figures and politician’s overuse of certain words.
Prior to Channel 4, Cathy hosted GMTV’s The Sunday Programme, and served as the Financial Times’ chief political correspondent after a period covering politics and the media for the business daily. Before the FT she worked as media business correspondent at the Independent, and away from more serious issues has appeared on Have I Got News For You.
“She was fantastic to deal with, both before and during the conference: a very personable, well-organised Chair.”
A consummate professional, extremely well prepared and a dream to work with. She was not afraid to ask some difficult, searching and valid questions of our speakers and panels, all of which really added to the conference and delegate experience. Our delegates responded extremely well to Cathy and found her very engaging and personable. They particularly loved the way she was able to bring humour to her chairing.
Very pleased with Cathy, she was a great host for the evening. She took the time to work through the script pre-event and tailored it to suit the audience. Comments made on the evening about Cathy were very positive, she made the audience laugh and those sat on her table said she was great.
Excellent – professional, supportive and delivered as expected.
Absolutely perfect, she really complimented our event. Cathy had clearly done lots of prep and gave a really in-depth introduction to the presentation section of our afternoon, then led Q&A with carefully thought out questions. Our audience seemed impressed not only with the choice of speaker but her understanding of the subject matter. She stayed afterwards and very kindly spoke to several of our guests and was genuinely interesting company.
Very well. We were very happy with Cathy as chair and she was fantastic to deal with, both before and during the event. Very personable, well-organised and prepared.
Feedback from the audience has bee largely good. Out of the 39 respondents to our survey so far, 35 rated Cathy From acceptable – Excellent. I have included some comments below:
“Good impartial chair who kept the event moving.”
“Sound knowledge of the topic and posed some relevant questions when necessary.”
