Biography

Nick Fry is a recognised leader and pioneer within the motorsport and automotive industries. He has led several of the world’s best motorsport teams, and some of the world’s most prestigious car brands. As part of his role with McLaren Applied, he’s at the forefront of the personal transportation revolution by progressing Micro Mobility with LAVOIE.

Born in London, Nick’s drive for high performance was ignited at an early age when he became fascinated by motorsports and super cars. After gaining a degree in Economics from Swansea University, he began his illustrious career at Ford where he held numerous senior operational roles in Product Development, Marketing and Manufacturing. He also took on the position of Managing Director at Aston Martin and was responsible for developing the iconic Aston Martin DB7 – a model which transformed the company’s fortunes.

Before joining McLaren, Nick was Chief Executive Officer for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team and was instrumental in selling the team to Daimler and the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund. He also held CEO roles at Brawn GP which won the F1 Drivers and Constructors World Championship, the Honda Racing F1 Team, and British American Racing. Under his leadership, the Subaru World Rally Team also won the World Rally Championship twice.

Nick then joined McLaren Applied as Non-Executive Chairman. Drawing on his unique legacy, he spearheads the company’s continued growth in key markets. Alongside this role, he is a founder of Stonehaven Partners, where he provides commercial advice and consulting services to a variety of automotive and high-performance sectors.

In the Disney+ docu series, Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story, Nick recounts how he persuaded Ross Brawn to join the former Honda works team after the Japanese manufacturer decided to quit F1. Hosted by Keanu Reeves, the documentary reveals how against all odds, the ailing team then won the world championship.

As a leader, Nick's passion and drive for the best informs everything he and his teams do. He recounts his experience in highly competitive environments, drawing lessons from areas where risk is viewed in sometimes dramatically different ways. By drawing on parallels from the world of F1 he provides ideas which are both memorable and actionable to improve business performance.
