Matthew Syed is an author, award-winning journalist and acclaimed speaker in the field of high performance, who has worked with leading organisations to build a mindset of continuous improvement. In his keynotes he talks about the power of growth mindset, and the profound impact it can have on individual, team and organisation performance. He also discusses cognitive diversity and how it can boost collaboration, creativity and innovation. Using examples from healthcare, aviation, business, education, sport and the criminal justice system, he explores some of the best-kept secrets of the world's most successful teams and how leaders play a critical role in creating a culture that drives higher levels of performance.

Biography

Matthew Syed has written seven best-selling books Bounce, Black Box Thinking, Rebel Ideas, The Greatest, and his children’s books, What Do You Think, You Are Awesome and Dare to Be You. He is a multi-award-winning journalist for The Times and The Sunday Times and presenter of the BBC Radio 4 programme, Sideways. He is a regular contributor to television and radio and, in his previous career, was the England table tennis number one for almost a decade.

He is also co-founder of Matthew Syed Consulting (MSC). The company has worked with an impressive portfolio of clients to build growth mindset cultures and drive higher performance in individuals, teams, and organisations. Matthew Syed Consulting’s cutting-edge thought leadership programme and digital learning tools are becoming a catalyst for real and lasting change within business and the public sector.

Matthew examines workplace culture, and how people crave meaning in their work, which is often situated in the common bonds with colleagues. He also believes when we work with other people, we are much better, as it drives creativity and problem solving.

Matthew’s work has had a direct impact in many organisations, not least in the creation of the NHS’s Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch. He works very closely with the education sector to help improve mindsets in schools and young people and is an active founding member of the charity Greenhouse Sports, and an ambassador for the PiXL Educational Foundation.
