From Outnumbered to Fleabag, Mock the Week to The Now Show, The Great British Dig to the Bond film No Time to Die, Hugh has covered comedy, impressions, dramatic acting, and even competed in a stage of the Tour de France.
Hugh Dennis started out in comedy over three decades ago, making his name as one half of Punt & Dennis. Since then, he's stared in the improvised family sitcom Outnumbered, as well as Lee Mack's Not Going Out, and appeared on every edition of the original 21 series of Mock the Week. He co-hosted and co-wrote Radio 4's The Now Show, with Steve Punt, for 26 years, and has taken on a range of dramatic acting and presenting roles.
After originally working as a brand manager for Unilever, Hugh turned a talent for impressions to better use and began to provide voices for Spitting Image. He then became a regular guest on the Jasper Carott Show and joined the team on the seminal standup and sketch show The Mary Whitehouse Experience, which first aired on the radio before becoming a cult BBC2 hit.
Hugh has been a guest on panel shows from QI to Would I Lie to You?, and presented The Great British Countryside and The Great British Dig. Turning to dramatic acting, he's taken on roles in The Couple Next Door, Agatha Christie’s Marple, and Midsomer Murders. He also appeared in the acclaimed TV version of Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Fleabag, and even made a brief appearance as a scientist in an MI6 laboratory in the Bond film, No Time to Die.
“Hugh was very professional, enthusiastic and charismatic – we loved him.”
An excellent choice for an event host or compere. During our Awards and Gala Dinner event Hugh's 20 minute opening slot was highly entertaining and he presented our awards professionally whilst engaging well with the winners on stage.
Hugh was a great choice of awards host. He was excellent to work with, taking the time to hear the brief and go through the script. He was patient during pre-event rehearsals , whilst the crew got the stage, sound and lighting right. His ad lib's were funny and well timed. He was very sociable and laid back throughout, and was a real pleasure to work with.
Hugh was excellent. Punctual, engaged, great presentation, approachable and got involved after the awards.
He was brilliant and a perfect choice for the awards.
This event is always the more challenging of our two award shows as its senior management and these people go to this type of event a lot however Hugh really did his homework on the company and industry which really paid off.
He was also incredibly easy to work with and very laid back.
Hugh was a great Awards host and his pitch was just right. He took time during the briefing to understand our business and was able to incorporate some really funny industry insights into his opening slot. He followed the brief, kept the evening running to time and was very sociable with the audience. Everyone loved him.
