Countdown Host
The football and darts aficionado has fronted coverage of the BDO World Darts and EFL highlights, as well as hosting Radio 5 Live's entertaining look at the weeks sporting news, Fighting Talk. The ex-Radio 1 DJ has also hosted NFL coverage and a daily talkSPORT show. He is the host of Channel 4's gameshow Countdown.
Colin Murray is a TV and radio presenter who has covered everything from sport to music to lifestyle in his varied career. Before hosting Channel 4's longest-running show, Countdown, he hosted Radio 5 Live’s sports panel show Fighting Talk, marshalling the egos of the competing pundits, comedians, and journalists.
The three-time Sony Gold winner began as a newspaper reporter in his native Northern Ireland, before which he published his own music magazine Blank. He then unexpectedly found himself co-hosting BBC Radio 1's Session in Northern Ireland. Colin established a popular partnership with Edith Bowman on Radio 1’s daytime schedule before going it alone hosting the early evening new music show.
Colin also has a passion for sport and hosted Match of the Day 2, EFL highlights, and the BDO World Darts Championships. On radio he hosted a daily show on talkSPORT for three years before returning to the BBC and Fighting Talk. Whilst away from broadcasting, Colin has written a regular sport-focused column for Metro, and has written the books, A Random History of Football, and Fighting Talk: Flimsy Facts, Sweeping Statements and Inspired Sporting Hunches.
“Really lovely, funny and polished”
The perfect host for our event. Really high energy – had everyone engaged and laughing!
Colin was outstanding. Brilliant to work with, and ultimately the best host we have ever had for the night. He was fun, engaging and found the right ‘line’ with the audience. The most pleasing thing was that his skill and enthusiasm made the Awards mean something. It was a genuine awards celebration thanks to his efforts.
Superb, the best host yet. Colin had done all his homework before arrival and quickly got to grips with the script and how the event should run. He worked really hard to engage the audience, succeeded, and basically ran the event for us which meant we could actually relax and enjoy the proceedings.
Was just brilliant. The whole room fell a little bit in love with him, and everyone is asking if we can have him back as soon as possible!
Colin was a pleasure to work with. Well prepared, eager to do a good job and more than happy to chat to guests, Colin kept the night moving and had clearly done his homework on all things chemical engineering.
Colin took the subject matter, and the awards, seriously but still injected plenty of humour to keep the night fun and the tempo just right.
Feedback from guests has been very positive too.
