WE ARE THE (FEMALE) CHAMPIONS!

IT’S COMING HOME, IT’S COMING HOME, IT’S COMING…. Well, almost! Despite the result in the semi final against the USA, the England Women’s footballers did themselves proud.

The current coverage of the Women’s Football World Cup highlights just how engaging women’s sport can be. Here’s hoping that the likes of Jill Scott, Steph Houghton or Nikkita Parris might one day become guest speakers!

At JLA we have the honour to work with many incredible female sports stars who are also available as guest speakers. Whether they battle on track, court, field or mountain – there are so many to motivate, thrill and inspire. We have ALL the sports covered! Here are some as food for thought…

Firstly a couple of legends – athlete Dame Kelly Holmes talks not only about teamwork but diversity and mental wellbeing. And the iconic tennis player Martina Navratilova speaks about the key to being a champion as well as wider topics on diversity, equality and the environment.

British skier Chemmy Alcott talks about her time competing for Great Britain in all five disciplines of alpine skiing, as well as overcoming adversity (during her career she broke bones 49 times, including her neck!). And, England Netball coach Tracey Neville MBE is a guest speaker who talks about creating an open and accountable team culture both on and off court – as well as becoming Commonwealth champions and raising the profile and professionalism of her sport.

A number of guest speakers prefer an interview format – allowing people to ask pressing questions and create a really bespoke session. Dame Laura Davies is a guest speaker who prefers just this format, our most accomplished female golfer of modern times. Similarly, champion cyclist Victoria Pendleton covers topics on preparing for the immense pressure at the top and also reinventing herself after huge success.

And if one guest speaker is not enough, then how about two! Kate & Helen Richardson Walsh regale their time as part of Great Britain’s Women’s Hockey and taking the team to victory with Gold in Rio 2016. Between them they cover topics on culture, change in teams and creating a winning mentality. They can also appear separately.

So, that’s female sporting guest speakers on athletics, tennis, golf, cycling, netball and hockey – what list could be complete without cricket!

Ebony Rainford-Brent is an inspiring and engaging guest speaker who played for one of the most successful England women’s cricket teams in history. Coming from an unconventional background for a cricketer, Ebony covers overcoming some huge life challenges to become a part of the team and also focuses on peak performance.
