The comedy blues combo specialise in silly, satirical songs. As one critic put it, ‘they set the pulse racing, the foot tapping and the face aching with a bellyful of boisterous ballads.’ Credits include Sketchorama, The Now Show, Robin Ince’s Late Night Revolution and Marcus Brigstocke’s Early Edition.
The acclaimed musical comedy trio Jonny & The Baptists have taken their infectious humour and tunes to venues across the country, building an admirable following in a short space of time.
Jonny (guitar & vocals), Amy (fiddle) and Paddy (guitar) compose and perform superbly crafted comic songs. Subjects range from what constitutes a real pub (pints of mild and scampi fries, not staff with asymmetric hair), to why Scotland should remain part of the United Kingdom (told as a ballad of two estranged lovers).
From the satirical to the whimsical, Jonny & The Baptists are both funny and ‘hum-able.’ And after taking on the challenge or writing a new song every day for their Edinburgh debut, they’re happy to put that skill to good use by writing bespoke material for any event.
