Biography

Miles Hilton-Barber has run the Marathon des Sables, and the 250km Ultra in the heat of the Sahara. He has climbed to 17,500’ and conquered both Kilimanjaro and Mont Blanc, and he has circumnavigated the world using 80 forms of transport. This would be impressive for anyone; for a blind person it is extraordinary.

South African Miles has been blind for over twenty years, relying on his friend and sighted guide to help him achieve his goals - including a world record for man-hauling a sledge across Antarctica. (Frostbite prevented him from becoming the first blind person to reach the South Pole, but he hopes to return.)

Amongst Miles’s many exploits include an 11-day Ultra-Marathon race across China, the "Coldest Marathon on Earth"- the Siberian Ice Marathon and the hottest ultra-marathon on earth across Death Valley. He’s circumnavigated the world using 80 different forms of transport, driven at 230kmph on the Malaysian Grand Prix circuit, skydived over 40 times, cage-dived with Great White Sharks, and piloted a Hawker Hunter fighter jet with an ex-Red Arrows co-pilot. He was also the first blind aviator to break the sound barrier.

Miles explains it’s not your circumstances that matter, but your response to them. His never-give-up attitude has inspired audiences around the world, encouraging them to face their fears, aim for their dreams, and turn difficulties into challenges.
