Miranda Hart is a comedy writer and actress whose hugely popular eponymous sitcom earned two RTS Awards (for Best Comedy Performance and Best Scripted Comedy) and a host of other nominations. She has gone on to be one of the UK’s favourite performers with dramatic and comedic performances on TV and film.
Before she found fame with her own take on the ‘old fashioned’ sitcom, Miranda appeared in such British comedy greats as Absolutely Fabulous and The Vicar of Dibley. She also turned up in seminal sketch show Smack the Pony, Julia Davis’ Nighty Night, Jack Dee’s semi-autobiographical comedy Lead Balloon, and the sci-fi sitcom Hyperdrive alongside Nick Frost. She also appeared as Barbara in Lee Mack’s sitcom Not Going Out.
It was the show Miranda that established her as a star with her amiable take on physical and social awkwardness, surreal situations, impossible friends and family, and being posh. It also led to the more serious role of Chummy Noakes in the hit BBC drama Call the Midwife.
On film, Miranda has played a wrestler, a loans officer, and in the Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham hit Spy, the former’s best friend. She has hosted Have I Got News For You and She’s toured her show My, What I Call, Live Show to capacity audiences, performed at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert, and written two autobiographies.
Having once worked in the Comic Relief office, she remains a keen supporter and participant having cooked, danced and ‘done’ Fame Academy for the charity. She’s also cycled from John O’Groats to Lands End for Sports Relief.
In addition to her acting work, Miranda has written five books Is It Just Me?,The Best of Miranda, Peggy and Me, Miranda Hart’s Daily Dose of Such Fun!, and The Girl with the Lost Smile.
