Geoff Meade

Fee Band

As the PA’s man in Brussels, Geoff charted Europe’s twists and turns for over three decades, witnessing shifting allegiances and the odd scandal. With an insider’s knowledge and ability to encapsulate the multi-layered world of European politics into straightforward language, Geoff reveals what’s really happening in the financial and political crises sweeping Europe. As well as providing ready analysis, Geoff enjoys dispelling 100 European myths in 30 minutes. For instance, despite charges of lavish over-staffing, all EU institutions put together employ fewer people than Cardiff City Council!

Biography

Geoff Meade was Europe Editor of the Press Association for 35 years, a popular and well known member of the Brussels press corps. He is regularly chosen to comment on the big issues of Europe both in the media and live, with serious insight and surprising humour.

Having spent over three decades covering Europe from its Brussels heart, Geoff has reported on the rise and fall of politicians, treaties, scandals, alliances and currencies. In addition to the PA Geoff has also written for European magazines E!Sharp and The Bulletin and collected his thoughts and experiences in a book
All in a Day’s Shirk. He frequently appears on various European TV channels and presents the European Parliament’s own monthly Leaders of Europe show. He is also a regular moderator at European institution events and conferences.

With an insider’s knowledge and ability to encapsulate the multi-layered world of European politics into straightforward language, Geoff reveals what’s really happening in the financial and political crises sweeping Europe. So different and all-encompassing is this current crisis that many members are unsure how to resolve it and the feeling is a new Europe will have to be constructed. How that will look is open to conjecture.

Popular for his entertaining take on all things European, Geoff looks at the foibles, frustrations, relationships and attitudes of the various nations, institutions and groups that make up the EU and EC. He also lifts the lid on the real inner workings of the much misunderstood and maligned organisations, and dispels the many myths (such as over-staffing - all the institutions put together employ fewer people than Cardiff City Council). Geoff is also the only journalist with his own plaque in the European Commission - Meade Corner - an area of the Commission’s Press Bar dedicated to him.
