JLA: In practical terms, what can a sales manager learn from animals in the bush?
VC: How to forge strong, mutually beneficial relationships with one another; effective communication skills and methods; that everyone has a unique place in the team and can bring different skills to the fore
JLA: How do you make strong-willed individuals function as part of a team?
VC: The example I use is the leopard. I describe how effective they are as loners and then explain their broader role in the ecosystem. Perhaps you employ a top salesman who is not very malleable, goal-driven and bullish; he can still be an effective part of a team so long as he's managed properly within that team. How you manage that loner is key to making your team function effectively.
