BBC Security correspondent Frank Gardner has reported on global events from Ukraine to Afghanistan, the Arctic to Colombia. A former banker and Territorial Army officer, he was shot six times while on assignment in Saudi Arabia. Frank survived with multiple injuries and uses a Wheelchair, which has not stopped him kayaking in Antarctica.
Frank is a graduate in Arabic and Islamic Studies. His first book, describing his experiences in the Middle East Blood and Sand, became a Sunday Times No.1 bestseller. He has gone on to write three best-selling spy thrillers Crisis, Ultimatum and Outbreak.
He was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II for services to journalism and was awarded the University of Southern California’s Tommy Trojan Trophy for distinguished speaking. He is also President of the British Trust for Ornithology.
