LORD (ROBERT) WINSTON
Mike, BPL Business Media 14 Dec 2011
Excellent. I’d seen Professor Winston at another tech event and delivered the right type of after dinner speech. I wanted it to be entertaining but stimulating, which it was.

Professor Grumpy did a good speech, but didn’t endear himself to any of the Board, whom he largely ignored or complained to.
He went down very well with the crowd and his message to the audience was openness, sharing, communication etc are all critical to establish Trust. These are all of the things that we were trying to achieve by speaking beforehand, asking for slides, and meeting at 0800 for a show that started at 0915 (although the coaches were delayed and we started late). However he vociferously complained to me & presenters about being ‘Micro-managed’.
In public it was good, one-to-one it was poor.
Not sure he’d be invited back.

Lord Winston was very interesting – but didn’t stick to the brief – but his Q&A session could have gone on all day as the teachers were obviously engaged in his session! He even stayed and drew doodles and autographs for the teachers which was great.

The success of this year’s event is in no small part due to Lord Winston’s contribution, for which all of us at the NAPF are extremely grateful. Delegates very much appreciated Lord Winston’s thought provoking presentation, which bought the conference to a fitting close.
