Steph Cook won the inaugural Olympic Modern Pentathlon in Sydney. Powering her way through the final 3,000 metres, she made up a 49-second deficit on her rivals to seal victory.
After joining the British national squad, Steph won twelve medals in World, Olympic and European competition. She was selected to participate in the British Athletics World Class Performance Programme, which proved successful in Sydney.
Steph initially took a two year sabbatical to prepare for the Olympics, putting her medical training into good use and linking the training regime to her medical studies. She now sits on the athletes' panel of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.
