WIKIPEDIA
BIOGRAPHY
As well as chairing the National Trust, Simon Jenkins writes for The Guardian and appears regularly on the BBC. He also contributes to The Times and the London Evening Standard - both of which he has edited in the past. A strident and uncompromising commentator, he nonetheless argues that the media should drop its constant air of negativity.
Jenkins was especially critical of the Blair/Brown Governments' role in causing recession, but he's optimistic a more balanced world will come out of the ruins. He sees the 'age of hysteria' giving way to humility, creating space for 'realism and personal satisfaction.' This, and a huge reduction in the public sector, will finally help the country back onto the straight and narrow.
Outside journalism Simon Jenkins has written books on politics, churches and the history and architecture of London. He has also served on the board of British Rail and London Transport, and as Deputy Chairman of English Heritage - having started his career at Country Life.
