BIOGRAPHY
Rupert Gavin is CEO of Odeon Cinemas, the largest group in Europe. He was previously head of BBC Worldwide, responsible for all their commercial activity whilst overseeing a huge and controversial programme of diversification.
Before the BBC Rupert ran BT's Consumer Division and served as Deputy MD of Dixons Stores, running the UK and Far East operations. His board level experience therefore stretches from the retail and service sectors to intellectual property.
Rupert's keynote presentations consider Britain's future source of global competitiveness, and the constraints in achieving it. And as boss of the cinema chain and a director of Ambassador Theatres, he also looks at consumer choices in movie and theatre-going. What do booming sales tell us about the psychology behind discretionary spending in a recession?
In a very different vein, Rupert has a highly entertaining after dinner speech based on a musical he has written about the Profumo Affair. He reveals extraordinary explanations, new mysteries and hidden truths about the scandal that centred around Cliveden and shocked the nation.
