BIOGRAPHY
Together frontman Rob Broderick and multi-instrumentalist James Hancox are Abandoman. Introducing themselves in the guise of Ireland's No.7 hip-hop act, they are better described by the comedy site Chortle as 'Flight of the Conchords meets 8 Mile - nothing short of genius.'
Rob begins by encouraging audience suggestions on almost any subject, often inviting a couple of hand-picked guests onstage. They then instantly create a funky and hilarious hip-hop track. Whether it's films, jobs, something in the news or just favourite sweets, Abandoman take any combination of themes and weave what one Times critic referred to as 'comedy platinum.'
The duo have enjoyed a week's residency on BBC 6Music, accompanied by the percussionist Camilo Tirado. They've also appeared at Bestival and London's Scala, and won the prestigious Hackney Empire New Act of the Year competition.
