BIOGRAPHY
Comedian and author Tony Hawks is a favourite guest on Just a Minute and other Radio 4 panel shows. He also pops up occasionally on Have I Got News For You.
Perhaps his biggest feat to date is having hitch-hiked Round Ireland with a Fridge. Three-quarters of a million copies of the resulting book have been sold around the world, leading to a series of similarly bizarre travelogues. Playing the Moldovans at Tennis recounts Tony's attempt to beat all eleven members of the Moldovan football team, at tennis. Satisfied he gave it his best shot, Tony went on launch a short-lived pop career in Albania, and build a new home for his piano in the Pyrenees.
In an earlier life Tony co-wrote and played the lead in Morris Minor's Marvellous Motors, achieving chart success when his song Stutter Rap became a No.3 hit. Tony sings, plays piano, guitar, bass and drums; he also plays tennis to 'near professional' standard, and set up a charity encouraging young people to take up the game.
Tony is a seasoned speaker, never happier than when asked to deliver his uproarious motivational presentation based on his time with the fridge.
