BIOGRAPHY
A former City market analyst and economist, Conor Woodman wrote and presented the adventure series Around The World in 80 Trades - an experiment in trading and negotiation. The experience is recounted in his book The Adventure Capitalist.
After almost a decade working for Anderson Young, Conor decided to travel the world whilst engaging in a much purer form of trading than he'd been used to in the City. Taking £25,000 of his own money, he aimed to make as much profit as possible by only buying and selling what he could see and handle, with people that he met face-to-face.
Across four continents, Conor dealt in everything from camels to chilli sauce, jade to inflatable body boards - each time buying, transporting, and selling on. En route he discovered the roots of business and capitalism, the importance of trust, persuasion, and what risk really means.
Beyond the business lessons, Conor also learned how to deal with people whose language you don't speak, whose culture is entirely different to your own and who survive rather than profit by trade. He also mastered the art of negotiating with drunken Kyrgystani bandits.
