Chris Hoy is a Scottish track cyclist, a multiple World Champion and winner of three Olympic gold medals in Beijing - recording three personal bests within the space of a week. He is now the most successful Olympic male cyclist of all time.
After starting out in competitive BMX at the age of seven, Chris became Scottish champion and was ranked ninth in the world. During his teenage years he also competed as a rower, winning silver in the junior coxless pairs at the British Championships; but he decided to concentrate on track cycling, and by the age of twenty he'd joined the national squad.
Despite his celebrity status, Chris's feet are planted firmly on the ground: "I didn't take up cycling to become rich or famous. I just feel fortunate to do a job I genuinely enjoy." But he also admits "I have to win at everything - it's a bit embarrassing away from the track."
