BIOGRAPHY
Presenter, writer, journalist and, now, pickled onion magnate, Barry Norman remains Britain's best known and most popular film critic.
Barry presented the BBC's cinema review programme from Film 72 to Film 98, after which he moved across to BSkyB. During that time he saw movie stars come and go and charted the fortunes of the box office from the doldrums in the seventies and eighties to today's record highs.
Starting as a journalist on The Kensington News, Barry went on to write for The Daily Mail, The Guardian and The Radio Times. He has published ten novels and nine other film-related books. His autobiography, And Why Not? takes as its title his supposed catch phrase - though it was his Spitting Image puppet, not Barry himself, who used it.
Barry's television credits include several acclaimed series on The Hollywood Greats and The British Greats. His BBC series Talking Pictures covered the history of cinema from the advent of sound. On radio, Barry presented Today, The News Quiz, Going Places and Freewheeling.
Barry recently branched out into pickled onion production, using a recipe that has been in his family for generations. Now available in a supermarket near you, the pickles are ferociously hot and spicy. Enjoy them responsibly.
